Y Garn & Garn Isaf
Looking for peace and quiet? Adrenaline and adventure sports? Natural beauty and a sophisticated, arty ambience? You’ve come to the right place. North Pembrokeshire has the lot, and wonderfully located Y Garn & Garn Isaf are smack in the midst of it all, close to the coast and the tiny cathedral city of St Davids.
As the dual name implies, you have the choice of two self-catering properties here. Y Garn (‘The Rock’) is the main farmhouse dating from the early 19th century and sleeping up to seven. Garn Isaf (‘Lower Rock’) is a superb barn conversion sleeping 11+ people. Both are Grade II listed and have been lovingly restored to a high standard using oak, ash, limestone and bamboo, creating accommodation that’s contemporary and characterful with many original features and all modern comforts.
Outside you’ll find a slate patio and raised garden area, ideal for birdwatching, stargazing and barbecues. Please say hello to the Shetland pony and five tame sheep owned by Anne, your relaxed but professional host who prides herself on her attention to detail.
You can bring your own pets too, for the properties are very dog-friendly. The picturesque fishing harbour of Abereiddi and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are just five minutes away. It’s one of the most inspiring stretches of coastline in Wales, where you can go island-hopping, wildlife watching, kayaking, surfing and coasteering, the high-octane sport involving cliff clambering and jumping into the sea that was invented on Y Garn/Garn Isaf’s doorstep. Or you might prefer to visit St Davids, the cathedral that’s the shrine of Celtic Christianity, or call into the galleries and craft shops that proliferate in these parts. Ask about B&B options – versatile Garn Isaf can also serve as a guest house (See Great Little Places, our sister scheme, for details).
