Off the beaten track has always been a key box to tick in our search for the best Hideaways in Wales.
Ysgubor is deceptively so, nestled in untouched Cambrian Mountain countryside an enjoyable stroll from the bustling town of Tregaron. Lee and John, are genial and caring hosts, their long experience of the hospitality industry shines through in the little touches, from the retained original oak with wrought iron door furniture, the selection of classic novels and the perfectly angled sun-catching recliners in the garden. They have created a stylish and contemporary stone barn with a ‘get away from it all’ secluded garden, surrounded by lush pasture and proper mountains. Picture postcard, ever-changing views of the Ystwyth valley are available from every room, but they are best framed by the floor to ceiling glazing in the mezzanine lounge with a cuppa and a camera. It’s spacious, immaculately maintained and you’ll want for nothing. The valley echoes to the sound of Red Kites on the wing, and the soothing atmosphere embraces you just like the dreamy duvets inside.
The modern kitchen diner has an airy vaulted ceiling and patio doors to the garden. The three contemporary bedrooms include the quirky but cosy loft twin and the downstairs master has its own patio doors to a secluded terrace overlooking the wooly neighbours in the field next door. Perfect for an alfresco springtime breakfast or a long summer’s evening BBQ. The beaches and walks of the beautiful Cardigan Bay coast are within easy reach, and the Vale of Rheidol Railway runs a spectacular steam journey from Aberystwyth to the legendary Devil’s Bridge. Launch yourself into undiscovered rugged mid Wales from Ysgubor Cottage.
